#Erasmusx10: the online petition to increase the budget of the programme

L’Erasmus+ Coalition, the network made up of 40 European organisations, representing the major beneficiaries of the programme Erasmus + at all levels, has launched the online petition #Erasmusx10.

The campaign aims to gather support at transnational level in order to strengthen the Erasmus programme and increase the budget to create in 2021-2027 a new, more accessible and inclusive programme, involving all the educational contexts at all level of education.

At present, only 1.4% of the total European budget is earmarked for Education, youth and sports, and from now to 2020 only 0.8% of European citizens will benefit from the opportunities offered by Erasmus. During the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of Erasmus, the president of the European commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, prompted the institutions to be  “nine times more ambitious”.

Education plays a pivotal role in the creation of a stronger and more inclusive Europe, and to meet the sustainable development goals set by the United Nations, including favouring lifelong learning, sustaining economic growth, facilitating the acquisition of competencies for the labour market, supporting active citizenship through mobility projects, voluntary service, cooperation and enhancing the internationalisation of the educational systems.

The petition aims to collect 5000 signatures and will be sent to the Council of the European Union, the EU Parliament, the EU Commission, the European Economic and Social Committee and the committee of the regions.
