“Education is a topic dear to my heart. It was definitely because of good education, hard work, and a good measure of luck that I became one of the few Europeans of my generation who successfully fulfilled a fantastic dream shared by many people: flying into space”. Samantha Cristoforetti opened with these words the first European Education Summit on 25 January in Brussels. Her international educational background took place in Italy, Germany, France – where she participated in the Erasmus programme at the École Nationale Supérieure de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace di Tolosa – and also in the USA and in Russia.
