The application for the European language label has opened

In 2020, the European language label – carried out as part of the Erasmus+ programme – reaches its last edition. However, the European commission has already announced its intention to continue and relaunch in the next programme this initiative that stimulates innovation in the language learning sector and awards the best initiatives in the different areas of school education, higher education, adult education and vocational education and training.

The European commission in accordance with its member states, gives special attention to multilingualism with the different actions making up the Erasmus+ programme, and also through the specific initiatives dedicated to stimulating the use and the enhancement of best practices of multilingualism and promoting public interest in language learning, such as the European language label.

What is the European language label?

The European language label is an European quality award granted to innovative projects of language teaching. It is awarded to the most innovative language teaching projects in each participating country. In Italy, it is awarded every two years. The Erasmus + programme promotes language learning and teaching and language difference as a priority of the communitarian action in the education and training sector. This is the reason why the European language label falls into the Erasmus+ programme.

In Italy, the European Language Label is promoted by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of University and Research and the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies, which make use of the Erasmus+ National Agencies of reference for the various areas of competence:

  • School, higher education and adult education sectors: INDIRE’s National Agency Erasmus+
  • Vocational education and training sector: INAPP’s National Agency Erasmus+

The evaluation of the applications will be carried out by national commissions of experts and members of Indire’s and Inapp’s national agencies that will assign the labels on the basis of the criteria provided in the relating calls.

The deadline is September 8th 2020.
