National statistics on eTwinning: record number of projects activated in 2018

According to the latest data on eTwinning activities, Italy confirmed itself as one of the most active countries in Europe in terms of participation, results and awards for electronic twining projects between schools. Out of the 36 countries adhering to the action, Italy is in fact the second (after Turkey) for the number of teachers enrolled with a total of about 70,000 registered users (more than 10% of the about 650,000 in Europe). In the just concluded year, a constant increase of teachers with about 9,000 new users registered in the platform was recorded.

The 2018  Italian statistics reported an annual record for the new projects started by our teachers: 5,275 (+60% compared to 2017). With this increase Italy totals 31,000 projects since 2005, gaining third position after Turkey and Poland.

The Italian teachers’ project partners
In line with last years’ trends, France confirms itself as the country preferred by Italian eTwinners for the activation of collaboration projects (314 projects activated in 2018). Spain, Turkey and Poland follow. Since 2015 it is possible to activate eTwinning projects between schools of the same countries and it is also possible to involve eTwinning Plus partner countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldavia; Tunisia, Ukraine, Jordan, and since 2018 also Lebanon.

Awards and recognitions
Italy stands out for quality with 1100 approved applications for the eTwinning quality label out of the 1500 presented. In the 2018 edition of the European eTwinning label – the main award by the community – 14 Italian teachers in 7 different projects have been awarded, a data that highlights teaching excellence and the good work done by Italian schools.
