School desks and stage. Paths of theatre education in the experience of small schools in the Elba Island
The “Tools” series of the Small Schools booklets was created with the aim of offering guidelines and operation sheets for classroom work, derived from the experiences of schools operating in isolation and multi-class situations. This latest issue includes information aimed at planning a theatre laboratory. Considering that there are many forms of theatre education, which include both watching theatre shows and a myriad of different ways of doing theatre, the choice of the research group fell on a specific way of understanding theatre education, that is the creation, for a class or the entire school, of a laboratory in which practice is the heart and engine of an experience of growth. The publication provides concrete indications on how to design and manage a theatre workshop at school and reports two experiences of theatre education carried out as part of the project “The small school of Elba as a community school” created by Indire and co-financed by the Tuscany Region.
