The Erasmus Orchestra is back on stage for the Festival of Europe

Saturday 6 May at 7 pm, the Teatro Niccolini in Florence (via Ricasoli, 3) hosts the concert of the Erasmus Orchestra, which returns to perform as part of the initiatives of the Festival of Europe – SOU4YOU 2023.

The fifty Erasmus students from over 20 Italian conservatories, directed by Elio Orciuolo, professor of the Nino Rota conservatory in Monopoli, will perform a programme that ranges from Mozart – with the overture from the Magic Flute, parts of the motet «Exsultate, jubilate» and the Adagio from the sinfonia concertante for winds and orchestra K 297b – to the British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, with the romance taken from the concert for bass, tuba and orchestra. The conclusion (in addition to great surprises in the encores!) will be all-Italian with the overture from Nabucco and the famous aria “Sempre libera” from Verdi‘s Traviata, with the soprano Ripalta Bufo.

The concert is organized by the INDIRE’s Erasmus+ National Agency, in collaboration with the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory of Florence.

The show is free and open to all, subject to availability upon registration. It is advisable to arrive at the theater at least half an hour before the start of the concert.

What is the Erasmus Orchestra?

The Erasmus Orchestra was born in 2017, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus Programme, on the initiative of the Indire’s Erasmus+ National Agency. It is a unique ensemble of its kind, made up of students from Italian conservatories and music institutes who have carried out or are carrying out an Erasmus international mobility experience. The initiative has a symbolic meaning and intends to spread the values of the “Erasmus Generation” – open, dynamic, supportive – and of Europe, using music as a metaphor for integration, encounter, and skills development, beyond any linguistic, geographical and cultural barrier. The Orchestra also aims to promote the many Erasmus+ training and mobility opportunities for students in the Higher Artistic and Musical Education (AFAM) sector. Through the Erasmus Orchestra, the Erasmus+ INDIRE Agency also intends to contribute to enhancing the talents and excellence of Italian conservatories and musical institutes, developing collaborations capable of guaranteeing an additional showcase for young musicians, with the hope that training sessions and world-class public performances will boost their careers.
