The virtual exhibition dedicated to Giuseppe Lombardo Radice

THE VIRTUAL EXHIBITION “EDUCATION IS THE INTERPENETRATION OF SOULS”

Giuseppe Lombardo Radice’s (1879-1938) work for the school system, his family and friends through the images of the INDIRE archive.

INDIRE preserves Giuseppe Lombardo Radice’s Archive originating from the documentary exhibition “Time, Life, Thought and Work of Giuseppe Lombardo Radice”, organised in 1980 by the National Pedagogical Documentation Library (Indire’s institutional predecessor) for the 100th anniversary since his birth. The documents, provided by the Lombardo Radice family for the exhibition, were finally donated to the Florentine institution in 1982, following the death of Lucio Lombardo Radice, son of Giuseppe. More documents coming from the Lombardo Radice family were added to the existing holdings during 2003 and 2009. The fund is divided into two parts:  a documentary section (letters, writings and autograph notes, reports, photographs) and a bibliographic section (complete collections of the magazines he directed, called: New Duties and National Education, and the pedagogical section).

“To educate is to put the student in a position to be the lord of his life, with the awareness of his human dignity”, Giuseppe Lombardo Radice

The small virtual gallery  shows the Photo Collection Section through some significant images accompanied by a commentary and by an analytical inventory. We hope that the sequence of images exhibited will be an opportunity to recall important moments in the life and the professional activity of Giuseppe Lombardo Radice.
