“Reinventing education”. The research of the Small Schools at the 2nd International Conference of the journal “Scuola democratica”

On 3 and 5 June, the researchers of the Small Schools took part in “Reinventing education”, the second edition of the international conference organized by the journal “Scuola democratica” to share with the scientific community the results of the research carried out during analysis and experimentation paths in collaboration with the local school governance system and national and international scientific partners.

On Thursday 3 June the researchers of the Small Schools spoke in the session “How Schools Address the Covid Emergency: Voices from Principals, Teachers, And Students”. With the contribution entitled “School Future (s). Imagining a new school normality in the twilight of the frontal lesson”. The Indire research group together with colleagues from the IRPPS CNR presented “The school that will come”, a survey aimed at creating an inventory of the didactic activities not to be resumed, and those to be resumed, perhaps with further development, in view of post-pandemic normality. The survey proposes a contextualization of Latour’s inventory and is linked to the literature on the future of education, assigning the role of policy designers to the school actors.

On Saturday 5th June, in the Parallel Session entitled “Active learning in classes. Analysis of experiences on technology- enhanced feedback in school and university contexts”, with the contribution “Classes on the network. Rethinking education in small schools. An experimental research in Abruzzo “, IUL University and the University of the Aosta Valley, presented the Italian experimentation “Classes on the network “ carried out in collaboration with the “Ecole Eloignè en reseau” of Quebec. In particular, the impact of this project on teachers’ propensity to change was analysed, with attention to the practices and strategies that can change schooling in small schools. “Classes on the network” is an educational model that researchers have studied and presented in a booklet and which in the future will see an experimentation extended to more regions.
