Fablearn Italy, the international conference on Making and educational robotics gets underway

From 13 to 16 December, INDIRE organizes Fablearn Italy, the international online conference on Making and Educational Robotics in teaching, entitled “Innovation in Laboratory teaching with Making, Educational Robotics, Coding and Innovative Technologies”.

During the four-day event, researchers, teachers, educators and international professionals will discuss innovation, educational robotics, coding, makerspaces, school fablabs, new educational models, blockchain and artificial intelligence.

The numerous afternoon appointments include round tables, conferences, presentations and special events – open to all – and will host internationally renowned professors, including Paulo Blikstein, Cassia Fernandez and Tatiana Hochgreb-Haegele of Columbus University.

The conference will open on 13 December, at 5 pm, with the participation of Sylvia Martinez and Gary Stager, authors of the book “Invent to learn”, which will be presented the following day at 2.30 pm. The two scholars will be introduced by INDIRE researchers Beatrice Miotti and Lorenzo Guasti, editor of the Italian edition of the volume.

The second day, December 14, will begin at 11 with a PRIN conference (Projects of Relevant National Interest) entitled “Schools to live in” with interventions of researchers and experts. Two PRIN round tables are scheduled at 2.00 pm and 3.00 pm, respectively: “School and innovation” and “School and city”.

On Wednesday 15 December, at 5 pm, the round table “Innovation and gender differences at school: an ongoing issue” is scheduled, with the experts Emanuela Abbatecola, Giulia Maria Cavalletto, Fiorella Operto and Laura Screpanti; for INDIRE there will be Beatrice Miotti, Daniela Bagattini and Valentina Pedani.

Thursday 16 December ends with interventions by international scholars on The IDEIA project: practical and mental science learning through the integration of makerspaces in science education.

Fablearn Italy, of which INDIRE has been the organizer since 2018, is part of the international circuit of FabLearn Conferences, whose lead partner is Professor Paulo Blikstein, director of the Transformative Learning Technologies Lab (TLTL).
