INDIRE’s Erasmus+ at the Festival of Europe 2023

From 5 to 9 May workshops, seminars, performances, entertainment, games, DJ sets for university students, teachers, school staff and young people.

From 4 to 9 May Florence hosts the new edition of the Festival of Europe. Since 2011, the event has animated the city with initiatives that promote encounter among citizens, and moments of sharing and reflection on the European Union to enhance active and democratic participation and communicate European values and policies.

The Erasmus+ Indire Agency is one of the official promoters of the initiative, together with the Municipality of Florence, the Tuscany Region, the Metropolitan City of Florence, the European University Institute, the University of Florence, the Florence Chamber of Commerce and the Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze Foundation.

State of the Union and SOU4YOU, for young European citizens, Badia Fiesolana, San Domenico, Fiesole – Palazzo Vecchio – Florence

The official opening is scheduled for 4 May at Badia Fiesolana, with the Conference of the European University Institute on the State of the Union – Building Europe in times of uncertainty – and continues in the afternoon of Friday 5 May, in Palazzo Vecchio with the event, SOU4YOU, The State of the Union for young European citizens. #SOU4YOU aims to stimulate an interactive dialogue on the present and future of young people in Europe, with a focus on training the new generations through meetings with experts on sustainability and skills enhancement. About 450 young people aged between 12 and 25 are going to participate; Erasmus Alumni will also be among the speakers and will talk about their mobility experiences. The President of INDIRE, Cristina Grieco, will also intervene at the opening of the works, while the closing of the event is entrusted to the notes of the Erasmus Orchestra.

The INDIRE’s Erasmus+ Space from 5 to 9 May, Piazza della Repubblica, Florence

One of the central places of the event is represented by the INDIRE’s Erasmus+ Space: a large stand open to all which from 5 to 9 May hosts a varied programme of activities, with workshops, technical seminars aimed at beneficiaries of European funding and informal events. There will be moments of confrontation with the protagonists of the Programme, artistic performances, animation, games, to explore Erasmus+ from many different angles, together with schools, university students, teachers, young people, stakeholders and interested citizens.

In this edition of the Festival, the Erasmus+ Space becomes a hub for institutions and associations that work on a European scale in the area, bearing witness to the synergies that the Festival sets in motion. Like every year, Indire’s Erasmus+ staff, Inapp and Ang agencies will be available for information on all Erasmus+ opportunities.

Friday 5 May

Activities start with “Take a step forward, Europe!” a role-playing game organized by the R. Kennedy Human Rights Italy Foundation for secondary school students. This will be followed by an event dedicated to Cooperation Partnerships in the Higher Education sector organized by the Indire Agency. In the afternoon, the inauguration of the Erasmus+ space in the presence of the authorities.

Saturday 6 May

A group of international artists from the Fondazione Teatro della Toscana in collaboration with the Théâtre de la Ville de Paris brings poetry to the streets with the Poetic Consultations. The square will also be animated by circus arts workshops for children, organized by educators and operators of TenRock, a project funded by the Erasmus+ Programme which proposes the circus as a lever for social inclusion and awareness. Also on the agenda is the official appointment, by the Indire Agency, of 120 Erasmus+ Ambassadors for Adult Education for the promotion of the Erasmus+ Programme in the area.

Sunday 7 May

From the morning “Play with Europe“, a puzzle to build together a large map of Europe, games, themed animation quizzes for children by the GaragErasmus Foundation; in parallel to this, the Poetic Consultations and the circus arts workshops with TenRock will continue. At 12 pm, Vita da Erasmus in collaboration with the University of Florence and with the EUniWell Project: Swap Party, the exchange-barter market organized by Erasmus students, followed by a discussion on some key themes of the Erasmus experience, such as the search for accommodation, exam anxiety, health, settling in the city, with the participation of Destination Florence, Politecnico di Milano, GaragErasmus who present good practice projects on the subject, concluding with the Speed date Meet the Erasmus students in the city.

Monday 8 May

The morning is dedicated to mobility projects for learning purposes carried out in the School and Adult Education fields. This will be followed by the “Inclusions and exclusions in educational contexts” work table with the students of the Tuscan regional council, organized by the INDIRE agency, in collaboration with the Institute for Research on Population and Social Policies (IRPPS) of the CNR and the regional School Office for Tuscany.

Tuesday 9 May

On Europe Day, on the occasion of the European Year of Skills, the Erasmus+ area becomes the center of an open debate between university and secondary school students with the event “What skills for the future?” organized by the Erasmus+ Indire Agency, in collaboration with the University of Florence and the EUniWell project and with the participation of the National Youth Agencies and Inapp. The Festival of Europe 2023 will end with a moment of celebration: a DJ set in the square.

Erasmus orchestra in concert

Teatro Niccolini, Florence – Saturday 6th May, 7.00 pm

The concert by the Erasmus Orchestra is also back, an unmissable event at the Festival of Europe!

The Orchestra was in fact born in 2017, for the 30th anniversary of Erasmus, and performed for the first time at the Festival d’Europa. More than 50 young musicians from Italian Conservatories and Music Institutes, on Erasmus in Italy, or who have lived or planned in the short term an Erasmus experience, will perform directed by Maestro Elio Orciuolo, professor at the Nino Rota Conservatory of Monopoli, Bari.
